Disaster Lab launches the FIRE Foundry program to establish a tech-savvy wildfire prevention workforce

Disaster Lab has launched the FIRE Foundry program with 19 recruits in partnership with Marin County, Marin Fire Dept, and the College of Marin. The Fire Foundry program’s objective is to establish a science and technology-savvy, community-oriented wildfire prevention workforce, by providing job training and skills development for underserved, underrepresented, and underfunded community members in Marin County and the surrounding Bay Area. Twelve of our recruits work with Conservation Corp North Bay on Monday through Thursday to carry out defensible space work in the county. Every Friday, all 19 of our recruits attend the necessary coursework to complete the pre-requisites for the firefighter academy as well as their EMR/EMT certifications. In addition, they receive advanced tech training thanks to our collaboration with technology companies, educators at UC Berkeley, and organizations such as NASA and CalFire.
